In which industries and applications are Ekato agitators used?

Ekato Rühr- und Mischtechnik GmbH, headquartered in Schopfheim, is a global leader in innovative agitation and mixing technologies. For more than 90 years, Ekato has been developing high-precision agitators for demanding applications in the chemical, pharmaceutical, biotechnology and food industries.

A key focus at Ekato is reactor agitators for the chemical industry. These stand out in particular due to extremely demanding operating parameters such as pressure ratings from vacuum up to +200 bar, temperatures above 200°C, or specific required approvals (e.g. ATEX, ASME, GOST). EKATO manufactures reactor agitators for both small pilot-scale vessels and large reactors with volumes exceeding 100,000 liters.

Ekato also offers universal industrial agitators for pressure-rated and non-pressure applications in the chemical industry, as well as for applications in biotechnology, food and pharma. For these, industrial agitators are engineered specifically according to customer requirements, with motor powers up to 75 kW, shaft diameters of 40–120 mm, and all common product-contact materials (316L/1.4404, 304/1.4301, duplex, super duplex, carbon steel, or titanium).

For less complex non-pressurized applications, Ekato provides compact agitators that save space and are driven by spur or bevel gearboxes. These can also be designed as side-entry agitators for installation in the cylindrical shell of a vessel. Where a geared agitator is not required, Ekato also offers cost-effective high-speed mixers with direct drive (approx. 1500 rpm), which can be used specifically for water-like media in the pharmaceutical or food industry.

With its UNIMIX division, Ekato also supplies complete process systems designed for the production of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and food products. UNIMIX homogenizing mixers are equipped with an anchor agitator or coaxial agitator as well as a homogenizer and can be operated under vacuum.

Ekato uses patented impellers for many agitators, developed by the manufacturer itself. This includes, for example, the Ekato PARAVISC for high-viscosity products, the Ekato INTERMIG for homogenization tasks in the medium-viscosity range, and universal solutions such as the Ekato VISCOPROP, comparable to a classic pitched-blade agitator.
