              We trade in used industrial filters for solid-liquid separation in pharmaceutical, chemical, food and beverage production.               How does an industrial filter work?

              An industrial filter separates solids from liquids or gases by passing the medium through a filter element — filter cloth, filter plate, filter cartridge or a precoat layer. Solids are retained in the filter medium, the filtrate passes through. The driving force is either positive pressure (pressure filters, filter presses, candle filters) or negative pressure (vacuum filters, belt filters, suction nutsche). Design, micron rating and material depend on the medium, solids load, pressure rating and hygiene requirements — typical applications are pharmaceutical, chemical, food, beverage (beer/wine) and cosmetic industries. Choosing the right design determines separation efficiency, service life and energy efficiency.

              What are the benefits of used industrial filters?

              Used filter presses, candle, plate and nutsche filters are available immediately — no manufacturer lead time, no engineering delays. Compared to new equipment the savings are substantial, and for many standard applications older units are technically more than sufficient.

              Before sale every filter is inspected, cleaned and supplied with available documentation — works and material certificates as well as pressure test reports where available. If you also need mechanical separation, you will find these in our centrifuges in stock.

              Types of industrial filters at a glance

              Filter Press, Chamber & Membrane Filter Press

              The filter press — designed as a chamber filter press or membrane filter press — is the classic equipment for batch solid-liquid separation. The plate pack is hydraulically clamped, the suspension is fed under pressure and the filter cake is then mechanically discharged.

              Advantage: high dry solids content in the cake, robust and low-maintenance. Stock typically includes equipment from Seitz, Della Toffola, Padovan and comparable manufacturers — including mobile filter presses for flexible use in wine, beer and chemicals.

              Candle Filters

              In a candle filter several cylindrical filter candles sit inside a pressure vessel. The medium is forced under pressure through the candle wall, solids accumulate on the outside on the filter cloth or on a diatomaceous earth precoat.

              Typical applications: candle filters for water, beer, wine and sterile media — usually in stainless steel. The compact design and the closed system are particularly suitable for oxidation-sensitive products.

              Plate & Diatomaceous Earth (DE) Filters

              Plate filters work with stacked filter plates or filter sheets and are particularly common in wine and beer filtration — as final or sterile filters with high separation efficiency. Manufacturers in stock: often Seitz-Werke, Della Toffola, Padovan.

              DE filters use a precoated filter aid (kieselguhr) on a support mesh or candles. The combination of plate filter + DE is standard in brewing and wine industries and delivers long service life with varying turbidity.

              Nutsche & Bag Filters

              The nutsche filter — as a suction nutsche or pressure nutsche — is the typical design for pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries: closed, GMP-compliant, filtration and drying in one unit. Manufacturers such as Bachiller, Mavag, Rosenmund and De Dietrich are common.

              Bag filters are the cost-efficient solution for coarser filtration tasks — pre-filtration, protective filtration or cosmetics. Stainless steel bag filters with quick-release closure allow short bag changes and are approved for many food and chemical applications.

              Pressure & Vacuum Filters

              Pressure filter is the umbrella term for equipment operated under positive pressure — candle filters, pressure plate filters and pressure nutsches are included. They are chosen when filtration is to take place under closed conditions or at higher speed.

              Vacuum filters work the other way round: the filtrate is drawn off by negative pressure. Typical designs are vacuum belt filters, drum filters and rotary vacuum filters — preferred for continuous large-volume filtration in chemical and mining applications.

              Frequently asked questions about industrial filters and filter presses

              The decisive factors are filter area, material, pressure rating, micron rating and design — they have to match the medium, solids load and hygiene requirement. For pharmaceutical and food applications, GMP suitability, surface finish and existing works certificates are central.

              Also check the condition of seals, filter cloths/plates and the pressure hydraulics (for filter presses). We supply every filter inspected, cleaned and with available documentation — works and material certificates as well as pressure test reports where available.

              Filter presses are the standard solution for high dry solids content in the cake — chemicals, sewage sludge, pigments. Candle filters are suited for low solids loads in closed systems — pharmaceutical, beer, wine, water. Plate filters and DE filters are established in brewing and wine technology (final and sterile filtration).

              Nutsche filters combine filtration and drying in one unit — typical in pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries (GMP). Bag filters are the cost-efficient choice for pre-filtration and coarser tasks. Vacuum filters such as belt and drum filters are used for continuous large-volume filtration.

              The price mainly depends on filter area, plate count, material, pressure rating and design — a stainless steel 304 chamber filter press of medium size is significantly less expensive than a stainless steel 316 membrane filter press or a GMP-compliant nutsche filter. Compared to new equipment the savings on used stock are typically substantial, with shorter availability.
