Pharmaceutical Manufacturing – Used & New Stainless Steel Process Vessels, Reactors & Equipment

Not necessarily – used pharmaceutical equipment is sourced from decommissioned facilities where it was in active service until the end. At our warehouse, all equipment undergoes professional inspection, including material verification (AISI304/AISI316), wall thickness measurement and surface assessment. A precise description including Ra value, material grade and condition is then prepared. A high-quality used vessel, after professional refurbishment, can be just as technically and hygienically reliable as a new one – at a significantly lower price.

Where required, we offer modifications and adaptations – e.g. additional connections, a suitable agitator, an insulation jacket, CIP nozzles or special surface treatment (electropolishing to Ra ≤ 0.8 µm). Many customers carry out minor adaptations themselves; for larger modifications we cooperate with specialised equipment manufacturers who will prepare a tailored quotation for your project.

Many of our stainless steel units originate directly from the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries and were manufactured to GMP or cGMP standards – frequently from 1.4404 (316L) with electropolished interior surfaces. For each used vessel we document the exact previous application, material grade and surface condition, so you can quickly determine whether the vessel is suitable for your requirements. On request we can prepare an inspection report of the interior surfaces including Ra value measurement.

No statutory warranty is offered on used goods. However, our customers can rely on our accommodating support in the event of any issues: Should a problem arise, we will assist you with the costs incurred or offer a return or replacement of the vessel. For an additional charge, we can also carry out a surface inspection of the interior on behalf of the customer to proactively rule out potential risks.

For pharmaceutical applications, the stainless steel grades 1.4404 (AISI 316L) and 1.4571 (AISI 316Ti) are predominantly used. These austenitic stainless steels offer high corrosion resistance to acids, alkalis and cleaning agents. For particularly demanding processes – such as API production or WFI systems – electropolished surfaces with an Ra value ≤ 0.8 µm are employed. AISI304 steels are also used in less critical areas.

Many of our used pharmaceutical equipment originate from GMP and cGMP-certified production environments and were manufactured in accordance with FDA and EMA requirements. Depending on origin and manufacturer, documentation on materials, weld seams and surface quality is available. Please note that the final GMP qualification of a vessel within your production environment must be carried out by your quality officer. We support you with all available documentation.
