The Blefa GmbH & Co KG, based in Kreuztal, was a well-known manufacturer of IBC containers made of stainless steel. In 2003, the IBC division was sold to Schäfer Werke, which has since continued production under the manufacturer name Schäfer in the Czech Republic. Today, the still existing Blefa GmbH primarily manufactures stainless steel kegs for the beverage industry. Blefa IBC containers are still widely used in large quantities in the chemical industry. Depending on their design, Blefa IBCs can be used for the transport of hazardous goods (solvents, alcohols) or for the internal transport of liquids of any kind.
