What are the advantages of a high-shear mixer?
High-shear mixers are versatile and proven in use in the food industry (for mixing sauces, soups), in the cosmetics industry (for shower gels, lotions, or care oils), as well as in chemicals and environmental technology (e.g., for suspending heavy sediments). Compared to other common agitator elements, they offer the following advantages:
- High mixing quality: High-shear mixers ensure effective and product-friendly (low-shear) mixing, even when incorporating powders and granulated materials.
- No sedimentation: The directed shear flow prevents sedimentation at the bottom of the vessel.
- No baffles required: No flow baffles need to be installed in the vessel.
- No lump formation: The axial flow of the high-shear mixer avoids radial rotational flow in the tank.

How does the rotor-stator system of the high-shear mixer work?
The high-shear mixer is characterized by its proven rotor-stator system. Here, a fast-rotating rotor is surrounded by a static deflector tube. This static component creates a directed shear flow of the medium, which strikes the tank wall and then flows upward again. From there, the medium is drawn back into the rotor, creating a continuous mixing process. In contrast to other mixing elements, the high-shear mixer prevents lump formation, as the energy input is converted into a vertical flow.
